Mills Oakley announces record-breaking number of promotions

Leading national law firm Mills Oakley is proud to announce 86 firm-wide promotions, highlighting the firm’s ongoing investment in talent and continued national growth.

The promotions span all practice areas and offices across Australia, reflecting the strength of the firm’s pipeline and the depth of its commitment to professional development.

The newly promoted lawyers, 66 per cent of whom are female, range from Associates through to Special Counsel and Partners, with the newly promoted partners strengthening the firm’s capabilities in projects and construction, planning and environment and insurance.

The newly promoted partners include:

• Andrew Hazer (Projects & Construction, Sydney) has a focus on transactional work particularly acting for Developers of major construction and infrastructure projects.
• Emma Whitney (Planning & Environment, Sydney) has extensive litigation experience and regularly advises clients on development appeals, civil enforcement and criminal prosecutions in both the Land and Environment Court and Local Court.
• Tara Plumbe (Insurance, Sydney) has over 10 years’ experience as an insurance lawyer working across a broad range of insurances practice areas including strata insurance, public liability, property damage and subrogated recoveries.
• Emre Ozgezici (Insurance, Melbourne) has experience acting for insurers, self-insurers, brokers and policy holders providing advice on property damage liability and quantum disputes, credit hire claims and claims involving fraud.

Mills Oakley also promoted 14 people to Special Counsel, 25 to Senior Associate and 43 to Associate.

Mills Oakley Chief Executive Officer John Nerurker said the record number of promotions this year was both a reflection of the firm’s strong performance and a testament to the exceptional calibre of its people.

The uplift in promotions aligns with Mills Oakley’s strategic vision to expand key practice areas and nurture a diverse and high-performing workforce. This expansion has also been aided by the addition of 19 lateral partner hires over the last twelve months, bringing the total number of Partners to 173 as of 1 July.

The internal appointments take effect from 1 July 2025.
